About us
Epioneum LLP is a software company registered in England and Wales. We develop and publish Epioneum, a nutrition tracking app for iPhone.
What we do
Our business is developing, publishing and supporting iPhone applications, which we distribute through the Apple App Store. Epioneum LLP was formed for exactly that purpose, and Epioneum is our first app.
Epioneum is a calorie and nutrition tracker: you photograph a meal or search for it, and the app tells you what you ate, in grams, with the calories and the nutrients that follow from it. It keeps a daily diary, tracks weight and goals, reads barcodes on packaged food, and can optionally read your weight and active energy from Apple Health.
It is sold as a subscription on the App Store, where Apple takes the payment and passes it to us. That subscription is our only source of revenue: we sell no advertising, we sell no data, and we have no other line of business. The prices are all on the Pricing page.

Why we built it this way
Most calorie trackers are built on user-submitted food databases, where a single “chicken breast” can carry five different calorie counts and none of them says where it came from. There is no way to check the number, so you end up trusting a figure that nobody stands behind.
We went the other way. Epioneum ships with a food database built from the United States Department of Agriculture’s public FoodData Central: 13,349 foods, 26 nutrients each, 35,840 measured portions. That database sits on the phone, so search works with no signal at all. Every row in the app names the USDA source it came from and shows a confidence score, and where a value was estimated rather than measured the app says so, field by field. Where we have no figure at all, the app leaves the number blank rather than printing a zero.
The website follows the same rule. The app has not been released yet, so there is nothing here that pretends otherwise: no ratings, no user counts, no reviews. The screenshots are taken from the app as it stands.
Where our data comes from
- USDA FoodData Central — the United States Department of Agriculture’s public nutrient database, released into the public domain. This is the source of the generic foods bundled inside the app.
- Open Food Facts — a collaborative, open database of packaged products, licensed under the Open Database License. This is what a barcode scan looks up. Scanning sends the barcode number and nothing else about you.
Both are data sources we build on, credited as their licences require. Neither is a partner, a sponsor or an affiliate of Epioneum LLP, and neither of them endorses this app.
Who else this site mentions, and why
Epioneum LLP is the only company behind Epioneum. It has no parent, no subsidiaries and no group. Three other organisations are named on this site, each because we are required to name it rather than because we are connected to it:
- Apple Inc. distributes Epioneum through the App Store and is the merchant of record for every subscription, so we have to tell you who is taking your money and where to cancel or claim a refund. Apple is not a partner, an investor or an affiliate of ours and does not endorse Epioneum. Apple, the Apple logo, App Store and Apple Health are trademarks of Apple Inc.
- The United States Department of Agriculture publishes FoodData Central, which is in the public domain. We name it because the app shows you which USDA record every number came from, and a source you cannot see is not a source.
- Open Food Facts licenses its packaged-product database under the Open Database License, which requires attribution. We name it for that reason.
No other business, sole trader or organisation is described, advertised or linked to anywhere on this site.
How we treat your information
Epioneum works without an account. Your food diary, your weight and your profile are stored on your device, and Apple Health data never leaves your phone. We do not sell or rent personal information, we run no advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. You can export your entire diary as JSON, or erase all of it, from inside the app. The Privacy Policy sets all of this out in detail.
